Julie is a Professor in Health Psychology at the University of Bath. She is a social scientist with particular interest and expertise around risk appreciation and risk communication related to the development of new technologies. Current work is focused around the developing University of Bath interdisciplinary network on Healthy Later Living. She is involved in projects on social prescribing, GP prescribing practices, management of medicines waste and reducing pharmaceutical residues in water. Other research is exploring loneliness, the role of mutual aid groups during COVID-19, and the social dimensions of managing food allergy and intolerance. Over the last fifteen years she has led and collaborated on interdisciplinary projects funded by UK research councils, FP7, charities and UK government departments and agencies.
